A short Story of ... Burg Heid

Burg Heider Mühle, how could it be otherwise, belongs to Burg Heid, which is only a few hundred meters away.
The Heiderhof and Heider Mühle (on the K 43 above the Ruwer) is a former estate of the Trier cathedral chapter (17th and 18th centuries). In the middle of the 19th century it was converted into a romantic castle complex. Belonging is the Heider Mühle located southwest of the Ruwer.

It is one of the insider tips in high forest tourism: Heid Castle. The remarkable structure is unique in the Ruwertal. The castle is often included in the tourist activities of the surrounding villages.
Today's Burg Heid is located directly on the Ruwer cycle path near the former station in Lampaden.

In the 18th century it belonged to the Trier cathedral chapter as an estate. In 1804 the property was auctioned. Johann Peter Job Nell converted the building into a manor and mansion, with towers as symbols of defensive knighthood, as can often be seen on castles on the Rhine. Between the two towers at the entrance gate is the large coat of arms of Nell zu Thomenacher, carved in sandstone. The way in which von Nell rebuilt the manor and gave it a knight's castle-like appearance contributed to the fact that the name castle became established over the coming years.

In 1932 the von Nell family had given up the farm and offered it for sale. In the same year the general manager Achter from Mönchengladbach acquired the estate, which is continued today by his grandson, Christian Achter.
